The biggest ship that MSC has launched
MSC Cruises is a European cruise line with passengers from all over the world. They offer comfortable, informal cruises at a reasonable price. Due to good offers, there are many families on board. Especially on the Mediterranean cruises in the summer (July till August) many Italian families enjoy their holidays on board and spread a lively, typically Italian atmosphere on board. During off-season and during cruises to Northern Europe the atmosphere is calmer and also many elderly guests enjoy their cruise.
MSC Meraviglia is by far the biggest ship the line has launched — and the fourth biggest in the world. The 171,598-ton, 5,714-passenger ship marks the start of a massive (nine billion euros) ship-building program that will see a megaship launched each year until 2022 (in fact, there are two alone in 2017 — MSC Seaside, a new class of ship, launches in December 2017).
MSC Meraviglia, or wonder in English, is the lead ship of MSC’s new Vista generation vessels that is the first of two identical ships on order from STX France. This mega ship spends its first summer sailing the Western Mediterranean with three homeports: Genoa, Marseille and Barcelona. The new flagship of MSC cruises is 1033 feet long and has more than 355,209 sq. ft. of public spaces
MSC Meraviglia is the flagship of MSC Cruises’ modern fleet of family-friendly cruise ships. Meraviglia, which translates to “Wonder”, is the perfect name for a ship that’s sure to amaze with her contemporary design and feature-filled decks plans. MSC Meraviglia’s enhanced MSC Yacht Club will feature exclusive restaurants, a private lounge, private whirlpool baths and several spacious suites. Outside of these premium suites you’ll find a variety of cabins such as duplex suites, balcony/ocean view/interior cabins and MSC Cruises’ new family cabins.
All 2250 cabins on the MSC Meraviglia are furnished very modern, equipped with a bathroom (shower and WC), mini bar, safe and Air conditioning. Standard cabins measure about 15 up to 18 square meters (inside and ocean view), 19 square meters (balcony cabin) and 28-38 square meters (suite with balcony). The MSC Meraviglia features cluster cabins for families travelling together. This new concept allows up to 3 passenger staterooms to be linked together and opened up. Guests can also experience a new level of luxury with the enhanced MSC Yacht Club, entirely self-contained with restaurants, a solarium with its own pool, a private lounge and fascinating suites with private whirlpool baths.
Food and Beverages
The main restaurants L’Olivio d’oro, L’Olive dorée and the Waves restaurant serve a mouthwatering blend of freshly prepared Mediterranean cuisine and international specialties in elegant surroundings. The Marketplace Buffet restaurant is an alternative to the main restaurants and is opened 20 hours per day. Furthermore the guests can enjoy Asian specialties in the Kaito Teppanyaki Grill as well as in the Kaito Sushi Bar. American delicacies are waiting for the guests in the Butcher’s Cut.
Entertainment, Sports and Relaxation
The cutting-edge MSC Meraviglia is packed with extraordinary features that make them ideal for cruising in summer and winter, including wide dining options and entertainment choices, stunning panoramic spaces, a large theatre and a spectacular amusement park linked to an outdoor aqua park, as well as a three-deck interior promenade. The picturesque Promenade Deck includes the ship’s shopping arcade (with duty-free priced boutiques and shops), various bars, specialty restaurants, live street entertainment, ample seating. The whole area is covered by a huge LED-screened dome ceiling, serving as digital sky. Besides the real sky webcam views, the Promenade LED screen above shows various images, vistas, special-effects and visual shows. Another highlight is the cooperation with Cirque du Soleil. The guests are entranced by an unique and extraordinary show.
Aboard the MSC Meraviglia it is like in a well-kept vacation hotel ashore: Good food, a numerous sports facilities, comfortable cabins and a variegated entertainment program creating a variety of powerful atmospheres at all times.
MSC Meraviglia Dress Code
During the daytime it’s casual, with people wandering around in just swim suits and flip-flops. In the evening it’s dressier, but more smart casual than formal, except for the two “elegant” (not formal) nights per cruise. A jacket for the men and a dress for the ladies would not go amiss, but it’s not strictly enforced. A suit or tux or ball gown are not necessary, though on the meet-the-captain night people go all-out.
MSC Meraviglia Gratuity
Adults, which are classified as aged 12 and over, pay 10 euros per night; children, classified as aged 2 and over, pay five euros per night, and there’s no charge for kids aged 2 and under. This is automatically added to your account. A 15 percent service charge is added to bar bills and spa treatments, with the exception of the prepaid all-inclusive beverage package. The onboard currency is the euro.
MSC Yacht Club
Experience MSC Cruises’ most luxurious touches in the MSC Yacht Club, which has been enhanced specifically for the MSC Meraviglia. Within the exclusive retreat, the Meraviglia’s Yacht Club guests will have private access to specialty restaurants, a solarium, pool and lounge space. Plus, personal suite accommodations feature whirlpool baths!
Shop to your heart’s content along the MSC Meraviglia’s extensive Promenade. The full ceiling of the Promenade is an LED display that will display beautiful images and skies throughout your voyage. If you can pull your eyes away from the ceiling, be sure to check out the popular shops and restaurants along the Promenade.
Amusement & Aqua Parks
Have the time of your life in MSC Meraviglia’s two-story indoor amusement park, which features a basketball court and plenty of space for fun activities. After a good workout indoors at the Amusement Park, head right outside to cool off at the Aqua Park or one of the refreshing onboard pools.
The ship will be Mediterranean-based until 2019, it also (unlike many lines) embarks and debarks in most ports. The average age is around the early 40s for adults, though with the strong emphasis on family expect literally hundreds of kids during school vacations, all of which are extremely well catered for. There are no bedtimes for kids, nor adult-only areas: Children are up until all hours, roam the ship unchecked and will be in the disco until closing time, which can seem odd.
All announcements are in five languages: English first, then Italian, Spanish, French and German.
When you aren’t relaxing in your state-of-the-art accommodations, you could be enjoying any number of activities aboard the MSC Meraviglia’s expansive decks. From the two-story amusement park and outdoor water park to the indoor promenade lined with restaurants and shops, there’s something for everyone aboard the MSC Meraviglia.
